What should we do about Mayport, which appears to be on the brink of losing its status as a quaint, historic fishing village?

Do everything we can to save that status by supporting the fishing fleet and other historic aspects.

Change the status by supporting a cruise terminal and other modern developments there.

Let time pass and see what happens to emerge in the village.

Regardless of what happens, just make sure some good seafood restaurants remain there.

Jacksonville doesn't need sewage from cruise ships dumped in our back yards nor do we need them to polute the air we breath, In a good faith effort now the City should not give jaxport authority to build cruise terminal in mayport since jaxport has falsified its records to misused tax dollars and the public trust to allow shrimpers to remain in mayport.

Jaxport maintains its secrecy to undermine the publics confidence with preserving the historial fishing village and has danced around enviromental regulations duping the corp of engineerings in granting what ever permits are necessary.

No floating retention barriers, issues with the water depth and maintaining it, at what cost for the city?Transportation to and from to support the infrastructure remains unanswered  unless its across the river,Im sure they be happy about that.expain how you turn around a 500 plus ship in the channel without a turning basin?Jaxport does not address the emmissions from the cruise ships nor do they address the kids and elders who suffer breathing problems  from emissions in the air from the bunker C fuel (which is the dirtiest fuel you can burn)cargo ships burn.I dont guess they have to wipe off the black soot off their car windows every few hours so the ships can idle in port.  just image what goes into your lungs daily. Is it really worth it?

wheres the save our beaches and the american lung association im sure they will agree.

The picture in today's paper of the proposed area that the proposed cruise terminal will occupy in Mayport is very disturbing.  It makes no sense to build such a facility that is so far from the airport, not easily accessible, will generate more traffic than the 2 lane AIA can handle and pollute the small village of Mayport.  The area that is being proposed for the shrimp and fishing boat industry is a joke.   The terminal does nothing to rejuvenate Mayport.  The smell, traffic and garbage that will end up in the river and then out on the beaches will be horrific.  The Disneyland condo development that had been proposed awhile ago would have been better as it would at least kept Mayport as a residential area.  Now it will end up being a big parking lot for cruise ships.  Has anyone thought about the Coast Guard station there and the proximity to the Naval Base?  I find it hard to believe that the Navy didn't protest this thing.  In the past, security has been an issue by the Naval base in that area of Mayport as well as traffic.  Will the Navy base gates in Mayport Village be open for naval personnel or will the cruise industry govern the base access?

Once again, the voices of the residents and citizens of Atlantic Beach have been ignored by the Atlantic Beach mayor, John Meserve, and the commissioners. It seems that John Meserve's legacy has been to continue rampant development at the cost of our environment and the wishes of the residents of Atlantic Beach.  Does Meserve also have a financial interest in this project as he has in so many others?

These cruise ships are HUGE!  A HUGE ship like that will ELIMINATE the river view in Mayport.  All you'll see is the side of a gigantic ship, nothing else.

How will 2,500 people get to and from every sailing of a cruise ship?  They just finished the Wonderwood Pkwy to relieve traffic.  With cruise ships in Mayport, the traffic will be incredible just before and after every sailing and return.

Won't that compromise the base?  What if a cruise ship is about to leave, the traffic is totally congested and there's an "All Hands On Deck" call at the base?  How do our military personnel get to their posts quickly?
