Well hello there!!! I am new to this blogging deal but thought I would give it a shot. I feel that Mayport is getting railroaded into a bad deal by trying to bring in cruise ships. I have seen how the cruise industry has treated the shrimping and fishing entities down at Cape Canaveral. Every time they want to take more dock space from the fisherman, they use the security issue as a reason to fence off more and more dock space! And when there is no more shrimpers, we will all suffer because then we will all have to eat imported shrimp. And don't get me started on about the imported shrimp coming into this country!! Those people overseas don't care one bit about the health of Americans! They have no water standards or safety standards like we have in this country!! But back to Mayport..........when the ships promise jobs for Jacksonville, that is a lie also!! There will only be jobs like baggage handlers for the day the ship goes out and returns!! There is no other dockside job and they all use onboard crews from wherever they are registered. Forget about the restaurants getting extra business either because who wants to go out and eat after a cruise? This is some kind of scam being sold to the city and the people of Mayport will be stuck with the ships and a lovely parking garage too!! Yippee for us all!!! I wonder why all the folks who like this idea don't have Mayport has their address?? Why doesn't John Meserve try selling this bad idea to the city of Atlantic Beach? Maybe the residents there wouldn't like the noise, traffic, and pollution that the cruise ships will bring here?!! This is the same kook that wanted to bring condos to Mayport!! That idea fell through when folks decided to not spend a million dollars to listen to the helicopters and smell low tide out here!! Leave Mayport alone and go back and ruin Atlantic Beach where they elected Meserve. But I bet he would have a hard time running again on this platform!! Thanks for listening Jacksonville!!!
