Calm before the storm - Fay on her way

The calm before the storm. Tuesday evening pre_Fay. The waters were stirring and the sky was amazing. Surfers could be heard and some never seen due to the swells of waves being generated.

Jax Beach Pier erosion

The morning was met with quite a surprise as a huge valley was formed overnight down at the pier. Joggers were rerouted and dog walkers were posed with some entertaining obstacles.

JACKSONVILLE BEACH: From a recent photo shoot at the beach. Relaxing and fun after a rain shower passed through

Take the time to feel, to listen

Feel, listen

When was the last time you went to the beach and actually felt the cool sand in your toes or heard the waves washing up or the gulls doing what they do? Oh too often I see many travellers sit at the edge of the dunes or the boardwalk, looking, but never venturing out. The beach was meant to be experienced, not just observed. So, kick off those flipflops (but be mindful where you leave them- I'll save that for a different blog)and head on down to the waters edge. Dip your feet in, breath in the air, listen to the sounds and look at the sights. You will walk away a different person...

Stolen Bikes From Fletcher

I find it hard to believe that the theives that are stealing bikes along the fence off of 5th at Fletcher High have not been caught yet. My son has had not one, but two bikes stolen this school season. His only crime? Leaving his bike chained to the fence overnight. The police claim they are too busy to check this out. All it would take would be to bait the crooks with a bike and nab them when they come to steal it. The police could find out where the rest of the bikes are and arrest them.

For their sake, I hope the police catch them before an upset parent or student does.

Lessons learned, don't leave your bike chained up securely on the fence, because nothing is secure anymore.

Hot Dog bun Monday

Funny how a few old hot dog buns can call a seagull for miles. Monday night at the pier

Pick up before leaving

Beached

This morning was a great morning to be walking in the surf. 72deg @ 7:00 am. It was a bit more difficult, avoiding the floating trash and debris. More than usual. We should all be considerate of each other and pick up after ourselves. I saw one surfer picking up arm fulls of junk before heading out into the surf. It wasn't the usual beer bottles and cans. It was water bottles and soda cans and food containers. Trash containers are everywhere, use them, please...

Sunset at the Pier

Sunset off the pier

There is nothing better than being able to experience the view from the pier. $1.00 is well worth the experience.
